Visual PDM
Visual PDM provides a unique set of features that empowers your company with reliable, accurate, easily accessible and up-to-date information. In brief, Visual PDM utilizes our link to your MRP/ERP system for existing Bill Of Materials (BOM) data and allows you to associate any number of documents or drawings to each part and revision in your system.
It also has a built-in work instruction/ process plan authoring tool which brings together traditional MRP/ERP routings with fully-detailed graphical word-processing-style information, all in a single, easy to create document.
The Process Planning Editor in Visual PDM is an authoring tool used by manufacturing engineers to pull BOM data, CAD drawings, and Routings together into one cohesive Process Plan document. We at Insight describe the output from our Process Planning module as a Smart Document with Smart Links, because within the software there is an engine that recognizes the various objects and their source, so that when an object is changed, the Process Plan is automatically updated.
Key Benefits BOM Smart Links BOM data can be inserted into a Process Plan via Smart Links. When the data is changed in the BOM, the Smart Links in the Process Plan are automatically updated. Dynamic Document View A DDV is a Smart Link to a section of a CAD drawing that is pertinent to a particular Step in the Process Plan. This means that when the original drawing is modified, the DDVs within the Process Plan are automatically updated. Drag & Drop Editing Inserting an object, DDV, or Smart Link into a Process Plan is easy with the Drag & Drop feature. A picture or other object can be inserted by simply dragging it to the Process Plan. To insert a DDV, drag the zoomed CAD drawing to the Process Plan and it becomes a DDV. Dragging BOM data to the Process Plan creates a Smart Link to that data. Redlining Redlining is equivalent to writing notes on a traditional paper Routing. Lines can be made to point at a particular object, a picture for example, and visually link it with an explanation or a certain Step in the Process Plan. Product Data Management Visual PDM also allows manufacturing engineers to manage all product data from their separate systems in one program. Process Plans, CAD drawings, ISO documentation, as well as multimedia and other documents can be associated to each part or product. These associations are realtime links, assuring the most up-to-date and consistent documentation. |
